It was a cold day in California, with the ocean waves spraying water at the innocent-passer-bye's on the pier. Several couples walked with each other, holding their partners hands in their own, laughing, talking, holding bears. The Santa Monica pier was supposed to not be crowded when it was Winter. It was December for Christs sake! The wind bellowed and moaned, the stalk's of the wood ground creaked under foot, sending some of the woman clinging even more to their 'mates' arms, as if scared it was suddenly going to collapse beneath them. Or maybe they were looking for an excuse to hold tighter to their man's arms. Whatever the reason, they did.
Anna held on tight to the edge of the railing. It might be a wooden walk way, but for the railing, it was metal with purple and blue paint. Looking down, one could see the ocean swimming around the wooden pillars, standing firm and sodden with the spray. If she just tipped over, a simple action, stepped onto one of the three rails and jumped, she would plummet into the ocean, and she could swim away some where new ...
"Anna?"
A voice jerked her back from her fantasy. Anna turned around to see a tall man in a dark brown leather trench coat. His black hair was cropped, with hair elongating to hang over his forehead, in the air. The man was wearing a navy suit, with a red-and-white stripped tie hanging from his neck. Thin strands of a fancy white shirt could be seen behind the blazer and tie. Anna smirked.
"Patriotic as always, I see."
The man grinned and opened his arms to capture Anna in a tight hug.
"Long time no see, little sis."
Anna smiled, putting the palms of her hands against her older brothers chest, and pushing so as to push him forcefully away. "Alright, alright." She muttered. "No need to get mushy. You're here for a long visit, plenty of time for that stuff." She told him, while her brother just smiled and held his hand out toward the more populated part of the park, where the exit unfortunately was. Anna rolled her eyes and started to walk in silence next to her older, taller brother.
