Last March, I was doing my usual file cleaning on the computer where I'd save pictures to a disc and delete them off the computer except for my favorites. Well, me being the ditzy person I am, I deleted them before I burned the disc, and for the first time I deleted them completely off the computer as well instead of leaving them in the recycle bin. The files were lost. I tried a system restore, but it didn't work. I was able to download a free file recoverer program and it pulled out the fragmented files that where in the computer's memory.
Well, once it was finished, there was TONS of extra junk, I had no idea where it came from. For days I had to sort through all of the pictures and try to find my pictures. Once I had finished, I had come out with a few cool extra pictures, and most of my original files, but not all of them.
Now what is the point of my telling this story you say? Well on April 4th I was in my bed and God spoke to me. He showed me a relation between what had just happened to me and how I could apply it to life. Here's what I found:
When you've had a relationship with Christ and you have doubts and are retreating from that relationship, it's like deleted files. You forget your relationship with God and your experiences are "deleted." The files in a whole are your relationship with God and individually are your experiences with Him and what you've learned through Him. The world and sin are the virus or the accidental deleted, the mistake, the problem. With computers, if you don't do anything about the virus/problem, you will continue to lose data and/or never get the files back. The same thing happens with sin, if you keep accepting it and don't let God or others help you, you're relationship with God and with your friends won't be repaired.
Christ followers, the Church, etc. are the file recover programs/services. See there are "fragments" of your relationship left, but you think that you've lost it all, or have forgotten about it. Christ followers, the Church, your Christian/Christ following friends will find these "fragments" and try to restore them. If you don't use their services, the files won't be restored, but if you do, your relationship with God will get better if you continue to accept their help.
The files that have been lost are all of the experiences you've missed out on in the time you were away from God, and all of the extra junk is the sin in your life that you need to filter out. You can get help filtering it out, but ultimately, you have to give up your sin and ask God to come into your heart. If you have a lot of sin in your life you can't have a relationship with God, it just doesn't work. Just like how it wouldn't work to have all of those junk files and still be able to find the good files. But this also takes time, just like it takes time to go through the junk files on the computer. With the help of Christ followers you can get it done quicker, but you can't just snap your finger and it's done.
Even though there are all of those junk files, once you've cleaned them out, you'll find new files, experiences and things that you've learned through the falling out that you've had with God. You'll realize how much you need him, and how much he helps you in your life. You'll realize that you never want to live without Him ever again.
