The camp was near empty, compared to the usual bustle that saturated the daylight hours. Normally, there would be kits sitting outside of the nursery, batting around a piece of moss or barley, or maybe chasing a butterfly that strayed into the camp. Except, there were very few kits in the clan, anymore. They had become apprentices, and there were not enough pregnant queens to give birth to more kits. Oddly enough, there were only 2 other cats outside in the camp, and they were both taking a nap. Anaxfly found this idea very enticing. She had been hunting all morning, and she was slightly drained. Surely, no one would mind her taking a nap?
Finding a sandy spot, right in the middle of camp, with the sun pouring down right upon it, Anaxfly was well pleased with her napping spot. She circled a few times, just to loosen up any sand that had hardened from the evaporation of the morning dew. As she laid down, surrounding her body with her tail, Anaxfly thought about the lack of kits in the clan. The thought crossed her mind that she had never had kits of her own, but then, turned away the thought. She had not found a tom worthy enough to father her kits, at least, she had not had the kits of that tom. It was not her place to have kits, she felt. If she ever found another tom like Icewhisker, then maybe she would consider kits.
Concluding her argument with herself, or her justification for not contributing to the clan population, Anaxfly shut her lids, hoping for a little relaxation and energy renewal. Maybe, just maybe, she would have a dream about the ebony tom that had not returned to camp after the Great Storm, and maybe, she would wake up, and he would be there licking her between the ears to wake her up, like he always did when they napped together at the falls.

The morning was as hot as always, with the unforgiving sun beating down on the moor most of all. Without a shelter for the moor to hide under, the heat was much more intense, seeping into the pelts of Warriors of all Clans and stirring them to slumber. The prey was drowsy as well, leaving the land abandoned or prey and hunter alike. And surely, there would be no danger as long as everyone was asleep and pacified, right?
A cat with the sun in her fur quietly walked across the moor, unbothered by the heat. Her small frame cast no shadow upon the ground, despite how much the sun beat upon her unfeeling back. An unseen wind touched nothing but her own pelt, making it shimmer slightly in the afternoon sun. Truly, it would be more convenient for her to simply melt into Anaxfly's dreams, but she had never fully explored the moor in her living days, and Sunfur had decided that today was a good time as any to begin.
Being a ThunderClan cat twice over should have caused some Clan rivalry between the StarClan Deputy and other Clans, but no feelings of hostility arose in Sunfur. Perhaps it was because she had long since passed on from their world, into StarClan, and her role was to not be partial to one side in particular. In ascending to StarClan, she also rose above Clan divisions, and saw all of pure and gentlye heart as her friends.
The land melted away as the Deputy crossed, and it didn't take long before her amber eyes lit upon the slumbering Anaxfly. Her tawny pelt was sun-kissed with golden light, and the female feline chuckled at the irony before lowering her nose to Anaxfly's. The method was similar to the ones Medicine Cats used to communicate with StarClan, but that was more of Spiritfire's area, a RiverClan cat who had taken the post of StarClan Medicine cat.
As soon as the two cats touched, the celestial feline shimmered and disappeared, not that anyone was around to see it. Disappearing into the dream, Anaxfly's dream took on a sudden turn, the location melting away like butter, and rapidly morphed into the TwoLeg's path to FourTrees. It was a specially chosen location for Sunfur - it was the border between WindClan and ThunderClan - a place both cats would know well.
Sitting in front of Anaxfly with her tail gently curled around her front paws, Sunfur beamed down at the earthly fae with the gentleness of agelessness. "Greetings, Anaxfly. Do you know who I am?"

Anaxfly's breath slowed as Sunfur entered her dreams. She inhaled deeply, then, letting out a long stream. The StarClan cat's presence penetrated her mind, and although Anaxfly felt the peace of the cat, she was still scared that the cat had appeared at all. Starclan only appeared to medicine cats and occasionally leaders. A warrior was almost never chosen to receive dreams from Starclan. Unless, she had died! But how could she have died? There hadn't been a battle, after all, she had only been sleeping in the camp, it was always possible that there had been an ambush; no, she was actually receiving a dream from Starclan.
Her fear subsided as the forever tone of Sunfur echoed in her dream. Despite Sunfur being from Starclan, she was rather agitated that the cat had intervened. She had been at the falls with Icewhisker.
The annoyance melted when she opened her eyes, and found herself at Fourtrees. She hadn't been to Fourtrees in a very long time, she smiled at the fond memories that she held here. Her eyes traced along the outer ring of the forest. She was now standing where Windclan had always arrived from. Anaxfly remembered her first time coming into the clearing. She was much smaller then, and a lot less battered. Her mentor had told her to keep her mouth closed, and to stop staring like a young kit. She had obviously not done a good job of concealing her excitement, because soon after her mentor had walked away. She had met several other apprentices that night. They had broken the barrier of harsh stories that had surrounded each of the clans. Although, to this day, she had still never managed to befriend a Shadowclan cat.
Anaxfly melted out of her thoughts. Sunfur was here for a reason, and that reason must be told. Focusing her green eyes upon the silver-tinged orange cat, Anaxfly prepared to here her message, "I saw you in your life, at gatherings, and I have heard talk of you, but never have I met you, Sunfur." she dipped her head to the Starclan cat. Althought she had once been a member of Thunderclan, she was now a celestial being, sent with a message.

Her small face crinkled into a smile, hearing Anaxfly's response. Like her, Sunfur had seen Anaxfly from time to time, in life, but never had made a personal connection with the Moorland fae. She felt she belonged among the forests, with the foliage covering the sky and the prey running underfoot, unexposed compared to the vast openness of the moor. The two cats had come from vastly different worlds, but now they shared a destiny, it seemed. And honored as she was, it was Sunfur's duty to share that with her companion.
Relieved that Anaxfly wouldn't be freaked out by a random cat that approached, she let her tail sweep behind her, the extra limb gaining no dust or dirt, and leaving no trail behind it. "I have a message for you from StarClan, Anaxfly. More of an honor, really, than a position." Letting these words sink in, the slender feline rose to her paws once more, slowly making a circle around where she had previously been sitting. Most of her time in StarClan was spent monitoring the Clans - which meant plenty of sitting around. It was always a relief to be able to get up and move, even if it wasn't the same.
"Anaxfly, your leader, Nightstar, will soon need a Deputy. And StarClan has granted him the wisdom of choosing you for that position." As these words echoed around the clearing, Sunfur had completed her circle, arriving exactly where she had before, amber eyes seeking out Anaxfly's gaze with a slight smile on her face. It was an unusual situation, for Sunfur to be able to deliver this news, but she'd seen it happen in her own Clan more than enough times to be able to enjoy the delivery.

A sense of relief flooded through the small she-cat's body. A series of other feelings followed. It was as if someone had taken her emotions and shaken them like a dog with its chew-toy. Although she was not dead, and that was a relief, she had just been handed a huge responsibility.
Most cats saw the deputy as someone who arranged the patrols and helped advise the leader. Anaxfly had a while different approach now that she had been given the position. Her mind was suddenly bombarded with thoughts of exactly how much she would need to do. She would have to make sure all of the apprentices were well trained, and assess them, she would have to organize dawn, sun-high, and dusk patrols, and she would now be a role model to all of the cats in her clan. How will I do it?
A sudden sense of fear settled upon the brown tabby cat. The golden-brown-green that had been so prominent in her eyes, was rapidly shoved to the outer edges in a thin circle, a small outline to the black pits that had now engulfed not only her eyes, but her stomach, her heart, and the rest of her innards. Such a high standard...
Anaxfly tried to stand up and accept this responsibility nobly, but her limbs were so shaky, she fear she looked like an awkward new-born kit walking for the first time. Upon the flush of a light head, she quickly sat down, fearing that she might fall, and not wanting to stumble before this cat. The blackness crept into her eyes, with small dots of light seeping through. For a moment, all she wanted to do was sleep. When the blackness passed, and her mind was restored to its former, utter confusion, she stood again, stepping towards Sunfur.
"I thank Starclan for this honor, they have bestowed upon me. I shall serve my clan as best I can." The words she spoke came like rocks falling from a cliff, staggered, shaky, and inconsistent. A thought occurred: 'Starclan would not have chosen me if I was unable to do the job.' And that was all that needed to happen. A sense of peace then ruptured inside of her heart. Although Anaxfly could not see why Starclan had chosen her, and she did not know how she was going to be able to comprehend the immense duties she now had, she knew that things would pan out, and she would be okay. She was still shaken, but she would be okay.

Sunfur didn't have to be omnipotent to understand what emotions could be coursing through Anaxfly's mind and body at this moment. After all, the golden-hued feline could definitely relate to suddenly receiving such an honor. The young she-cat didn't know what had been about to happen when she went to bed on her last day of life, and if she had known, the fae might've just sat up all night, without getting a wink of sleep.
For Sunfur, it had been terrifying, but also exhilarating at the same time. She was expected to be Deputy for every cat that had ever lived since the very beginning of the Four Clans? The prospect was daunting for a young ThunderClanner to ascend so high into the ranks of StarClan. Previously, she'd thought that the highest honor a cat could receive once she or he had passed on was to pass a life to the next leader, or send a dream to the Medicine Cats of the Clans. The fae'd never thought that this honor would be exposed to her.
And certainly, that could be one of the emotions that Anaxfly was pondering. Becoming a deputy always seemed like something that the next cat got, never you. The patrols would be daunting to organize, but simple in time, and being a role model didn't start once you stepped into the spotlight. For Sunfur, although she understood that no cat was perfect, Anaxfly seemed to be a great role model to WindClan's members.
Amber optics quickly scanned her companion, and it didn't take long for the slender fae to notice the symptoms of anxiety. Her gaze was ebony and nearly all-engulfing, and Sunfur could already sense the shaking in the WindClanner's limbs. Smiling compassionately at Anaxfly, a quick surge of concern flew through the heavenly cat's body, or what could be considered to be her body. Should she help the new deputy to her paws? Perhaps some strength given from StarClan in a dream could do wonders for reality.
But in the end, her new deputy hadn't needed the extra paw, and stood on her own four paws with confidence. Or, what looked like something that could be a substitute for confidence. Dipping her head happily, the ageless fae knew that Anaxfly would be great in her position - after all, that was why she was chosen. Stepping forward to her new friend, the difference between the two heights became apparent quickly, but almost didn't seem to matter in the ambiguity of the dream. Pressing her nose lightly against Anaxfly's, the fae's voice gentle and reassuring like a mother's. "I know you will, Anaxfly. You're going to be a great Deputy - StarClan has faith in you. Don't worry, for any guidance you need can always be found in your heart."
Cheesy? Yes, but it was something that Sunfur felt her new Deputy needed to hear. But even as her words reached the living feline's ears, the landscape began to fade away, like a cloud being pushed across the moor, until all that was left was the feeling of Sunfur's nose on Anaxfly's, and her voice echoing around the den for only Anaxfly to hear. The golden fae had done her part the best she could for Anaxfly - the rest was up to the new WindClan Deputy. The road wouldn't be easy, that's for sure. But in the end, StarClan knew that Anaxfly was the right choice, and wisdom would come with experience.

Anaxfly awoke with a start. Her heart was pounding faster and harder than it did after she sprinted after a rabbit. What was she to do? There wasn't a slightest clue as to where this sudden turn of events would lead. Would NightStar really choose her as the next deputy of WindClan? The thought was rather exciting, but very overwhelming at the same time. Like SunFur said, she would be okay, right? There was still skepticism in her mind, but who was she to doubt the word of StarClan? Shaking the sand off of her fur, AnaxFly decided that she need some fresh air, and running across the moor would do her some good.
