“This is never going to work!” Akilina said to her twin sister, Rory Weasley, as the identical sisters stood in Rory’s dorm room in Ravenclaw Tower, looking themselves over in the mirror that hung on the wall. Akilina, a Slytherin, had on a blue and bronze beanie and scarf, while a pair of blue and bronze striped gloves covered her hands, hiding the brown X shaped mark in the palm of her left hand, her birthmark, and for many people, the only way the twins could be told apart the past three years they had been at Hogwarts.
“Of course it’ll work!” Rory said, looking herself over. She felt awkward in the silver and green beanie and scarf. She slid the silver and green striped gloves over her hands, covering the gray paw print shape in the palm of her left hand, her birthmark. Akilina looked over at her doubtfully, but Rory gave a convincing smile. “Last part!”, she said, handing Akilina a large silver and green jacket with the Slytherin crest in the upper left corner. On the back, the word “Keeper” was written in huge black letters and under it, in smaller black letters was written “James”. “Dean’s Quiddich jacket?!”, Akilina gasped. Rory nodded grimly. “No one but me’s ever gotten to wear it. Enjoy”, she said bitterly.
Akilina sighed deeply and gave Rory a large yellow and black jacket with the Hufflepuff crest in the upper left corner. On the back of the jacket “Chaser” was written in huge black letter, and under it “Williams” was written in smaller black letters. “Kenton’s Quiddich Jacket!”, Rory said in surprise. Akilina nodded, rolling her eyes. “Yeah, yeah”, she said playfully, “Don’t rub it in! You’re only the second girl to ever wear that jacket!”. Rory nodded solemnly. “I will treasure it!”, she said jokingly.
Dressed as each other, the girls walked down into the courtyard 20 minutes later. Rory walked up to a blonde-headed brown eyed boy by the name of Kenton Williams, Akilina’s Hufflepuff boyfriend of 5 months, and grabbed his hand smiling warmly at him. Kenton smiled back, though behind his eyes was a bit of unease, as though he wasn’t sure about something as he looked at her.
10 feet away, Akilina tackled a dark brown headed boy with emerald green eyes. “Dean!” she shouted. The boy smiled and hugged her back. “Heyya Rory!” he cheered. Dean was Rory’s boyfriend of three years, and a fellow Slytherin to Akilina. A skeptic look crossed his face, but before she could even be sure it had been there, the look disappeared and Dean grabbed her hand. “So what do you want to do today?” he asked. Akilina brightened. Dean had fallen for it! “Hmmmm”, she said absentmindedly, “Why don’t we go hang out with Akii and Kenton?” Dean grinned. “Sure!” he said. Akilina grinned brightly. “Ugg!” she thought, “How do you stand being this happy all the time, Rory??”. “Lots of practice and with no urge to kill myself every time someone ticks me off!”, came her bright reply. It was times like this that Akilina hated being able to communicate with her twin sister telepathically. “Rory!”, she yelled in her mind while being sure to play her part and snuggle under Dean’s arm as they walked, “Your happiness is being very annoying right now! Go away!”. She felt Rory’s hurt turn to anger, then into sarcasm before she left her alone. “Thank you!”, she thought. “You’re welcome!”, the bright voice in her head returned. Akilina didn’t even bother replying. It took enough effort for her to act happy and excited to be around Dean like her twin sister did without her twin sister’s bright voice busting into her thoughts.
Not too long afterward, Rory saw the couple. She restrained herself from tackling her sister. “You have to run and tackle me! Right now!”, she told her sister. Her sister’s reply exploded in her head, giving her a headache as well as making her wince. “WHAT?!?!?!”. “Owww!”, Rory thought, “It’s what I’d do!!”.
She heard something that sounded suspiciously like death threats coming from her sister’s mind before hearing a loud yell of “AAAAAKKKKKKKIIIIIIIIIII!”. Three seconds later she was tackled with a hug a tad bit tighter than what she would’ve deemed friendly. “Hi, Rory!”, Rory said, sounding somewhat enthusiastic but injecting a slight hint of depression into the voice. “Hey! That was pretty good!”, she thought to herself smugly. Akilina gave a grin. ‘Hey Akilina!”, she said, sounding overjoyed. “Now THAT was good!”, she thought toward her sister.
“So what are you guys out doing?”, Kenton asked Dean, who shrugged his shoulders.
“We don’t really know!”, Dean answered truthfully, “We’re just kind of out. What about you two? What are you guys doing?”. A shrug was his answer. “Not much, just out for a walk!”, Kenton answered. Then he looked over to where Akilina stood and then back at Dean. “I see Rory’s wearing your Slytherin Quiddich jacket. I just wanted to enlighten you about the fact that Hufflepuff is going to win the Quiddich cup this year”. Dean kept his cool as he looked from Rory back to Kenton. “I see Akilina is wearing your Hufflepuff Quiddich jacket and I just wanted to enlighten you that Slytherin is going to win the Quiddich cup this year!”.
Over the next 45 minutes, Kenton and Dean both made it very clear that they were certain that their house teams were going to win the Quiddich cup. Rory and Akilina had grown bored about 15 minutes in and had flopped down onto the grass, and now as three-quarters of an hour approached, Akilina had an idea to get them off this topic. She gasped dramatically. “I JUST REMEMBERED!”, she roared, “I’M SUPPOSED TO DO A REPORT FOR MY CHARMS CLASS! I FORGOT TO DO IT!”. She looked at Dean. “YOU HAVE TO HELP ME!”. Dean nodded “Yeah, of course I’ll help you, Rory!”. Akilina stood up and helped Dean up before starting across the lawn to the school. “Before you go!”, Kenton yelled at Dean. Rory eyed him curiously, but Dean turned around, knowing showing in his eyes. “While this has been fun”, Kenton said with playful sarcasm, “I do believe this belongs to you!”. He shoved Rory softly in Dean’s direction.
“Ah yes!”, Dean’s eyes sparkled with laughter, “And this to you!”. He lightly shoved Akilina in Kenton’s direction. Akilina met Kenton’s eye and she knew they had been caught. As she and Rory traded places, they stopped in the middle to trade back beanies, scarves, and most importantly, Quiddich jackets. “I told you they’d know!” Akilina told her sister. “Yeah yeah”, Rory mumbled, “But Raven dared us to, so we had to at least try”. Akilina nodded in agreement, and the girls went slinking back to their real boyfriends like two 5 years who had just got caught baking mud pies in the kitchen.
As Rory approached Dean, she hugged him tightly and looked up at him with puppy-dog eyes. “Forgive me?”, she asked. Dean hugged her back just as tightly. “Yeah”, he said softly. Rory’s grin was huge as she looked up again. “You guys knew?” she asked. Dean nodded. “The whole time”, he answered with a grin.
