Well, this is the book I'm writing. I hope you like it!
Diaries of a Rebel
Prologue
Friday, 3743
Ugh, so bored… The drive to Jiash is so long. Mom gave me this diary to pass the time. Everything is changing, and I can’t keep up. Dad won’t tell me why we had to move. I left my house, my friends, and my whole life. I just want to be normal, like all the other kids. They all have powers, and I don’t. Mom and Dad don’t either. They say I’m special. Yeah right. I know what I am. A freak.

Chapter One
“Hon, can we talk to you?” Mom called from the next room. I groaned. It was bad enough that we had to move to the desert, now I have to be woken up at 6:00 in the morning?
“It is important” Dad added. I hopped up and walked through the hall. This house was VERY old fashioned. Almost 1000 years old. No speed cooker, no hover charger, no quick clean. It made me kind of irritated that I actually had to cook for myself. I couldn’t even use my hover board, because the energy was used up. But what made me really mad is that I had to clean up after myself. As I walked I examined the peeling wall paper, the finish on the wood was chipping, and it smelled of rotting fish. I entered the room where mom and dad were sitting. They were tense, as if they were about to tell me something important.
I yawned and asked “What is SO important, that you had to wake me up before sunrise?”
Mom was patient and said “We need to tell you something” Dad reached over and took her hand in his.
I immediately knew something was up. I took a seat and asked slowly “What is going on?”
Mom took a deep breath and hesitated for a moment. She finally spoke “You are………. Adopted”
“What?!” I jumped up “Adopted?!” I closed my eyes and rubbed my temples.
“Yes, adopted. Sit down hon.” Dad said calmly.
I sat and took a deep breath “How can this be? I always thought you were my parents.”
Mom sighed “We love you like our own daughter, and we always will. Let me explain. When you were only a few months old, your parents died. Your brother was looking for a good home for you, and we offered. They lived down the street from us, but we didn’t know them very well. After he gave you to us, he suddenly went off the charts, as if he disappeared.” She shrugged “We don’t know where he went for sure, but we think he might have gone into the tunnels”
I thought for a moment. The tunnels were underground, traveling through the whole planet. They were designed as a way for the builders to get around while building the water system. It was like one giant maze, though, and maps for it were scarce. The government claims it is ‘unsafe’ and now nobody goes down there. My thoughts wandered to my brother… I gasped “You guys don’t have powers… So I always thought that I didn’t… Did my real parents have powers?”
Mom sighed and looked down “We have speculated and….. Yes. This means that you…” She hesitated “Have powers too.” She finally said.
I gasped as a thousand thoughts raced through my mind. If I had powers, that changes everything.
Dad said “There is more. The reason we had to move is because the government is trying to wipe out the people without powers. People like me and Mom. They are trying to cut off our water supply, but they have been having problems doing that. Tomorrow, they are going to send men to kill us. They think that we are your real parents. They think that you don’t have powers. But you will, on your 13th birthday, next week.”
I remembered that my birthday was next week. I asked “Why will I be getting them when I’m 13? Most kids get them at age 10.”
Mom nodded “You are classified as a ‘late bloomer’. You get your powers later than most children, but you are more powerful.” She glanced at her watch “We don’t have much time before those men come to kill us.” She winced at the last few words and said “We need to get out of here. This house isn’t as updated as most, so there is no entrance to the tunnels. There is a house a few doors down that does, though. It has been burnt down, but the tunnel entrance is still there. We must hurry and go.” She jumped up and rushed to her room. She handed me a bag, and we rushed out the door.
My feet pad against the sand, and I see the crumbling dark house. Mom and Dad are a few feet ahead of me. Once we get to the house, we step over rubble. Only one wall was still standing, and a few pieces of charred furniture dot the first floor. We make our way towards the back of the house. Dad moved away a few boards, and uncovered a large pothole. I hear shouting and I turn around. Dark figures pull out shiny things that glint in the sun. My mind screamed what they were at me, and I told myself I should turn around. But I couldn’t. My feet felt as if they were plastered to the burnt wood of the uninhabitable house. Mom pushed me halfway down into the hole, “It is going to be ok.” She whispered into my ear, and gave me one last hug. Before I could react, two earsplitting sounds rippled through the air. Mom and Dad collapsed.
Dad shouted with his dying breath to me “Go honey! Now!”
I quickly climbed down into the hole. I slipped on one of the bars, fell a few feet, and my world went black.
That is my book! What do you think?
