On the subject of witches, the Bible states in Exo. 22:18, "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live." Doesn't that sort of go against, "All men are equal"? Or, "Be ye kind one to another, tender hearted, loving one another..."? It just seems that the more I learn about how good the Bible is in school, and then the more I really look at it and study it on my own, the more contradictions I find. So.. I just had to add in my little tid-bit there, XD.

One thing about the old testament is that it's a lot harsher than the new testament due to it being before Jesus died on the cross (meaning it was before we could be blameless through Jesus' sacrifice). I'm not really sure why that's said there. There are some passages in Leviticus that suggest this as well and I think one of the main things God wanted to get across was that he didn't want people to be worshiping other gods. He stated that in the ten commandments. Most people teach out of the new testament because it's more applicable since it post Jesus' sacrifice. Because people no longer had to sacrifice animals and be cleansed by their priests and such, some things changed and as a result there are parts of the bible that probably seem to contradict themselves. I'll ask my youth pastor his opinion on it and hopefully he'll have a clearer answer.

But according to Christianity, witches don't exist. I mean, self-professed witches exist, and I believe they mean by that, people who claim to be witches to suffer. And that, too, the Old Testament is a lot stricter than the New Testament.
Oh, and by the way, what denominations are y'all? Catholic, holla holla!

To the person who said homosexuality was a choice: It's not. Do you think I would choose to be something that makes people beat the poop outta me nearly every day?
On topic: Christians tend to annoy me. Not all Christians, because a good majority of my friends are Christian, but some. I think the bible is a book too historically inaccurate, and way too unrealistic. I have a hard time believing something that 1) contradicts itself a lot and 2) goes against some scientifically proven facts.

Vi: When the bible is talking about witches in this passage it's referring to those who serve other spirits other than God. And I'm a nondenominational Christian, although my youth group is Baptist. Savi: On the contrary numerous accounts in the bible have been historically PROVEN and have not been proclaimed inaccurate. I can't think of anything in the bible that has been said to be historically inaccurate. Try reading some of this article:

Amanda: Ah I see :3
And y'all... there is nothing really more historically accurate then the Bible, seriously. And it's arguably the most scrutinized works of literature of basically all time... So... yeah.

Professing my newfound knowledge from my christian education, I will answer a few questions here:
The bible has not once been proven wrong. And if the bible was simply an identical replica from one book to another (like how kids cheat in school and switch around 1 or 2 words for their hw answers haha) then people would claim that the bible was too much alike, concluding that it was all fake, copied out of one book. But as it is, none of the books are identical. Some may include the same stories, but none tell the stories the same exact way. The perception changes, as it should when you combine 60 authors into one book over a span of 1400 years, yes? The book revolves mainly around Jesus and his teachings. Even in the Old Testament, there were prophecies of a coming Christ. In every single book in the bible, there is some kind of mention and/or prophecy of Christ. The bible prophecies are not meant to be understood until the time of their fulfillment. Only God knows when they will be fulfilled, all we can do is guess. That is why many of the prophecies were misunderstood by the Jews in the time of Jesus, the bible tells how they did not know what they were doing until after His death and resurrection. People want to know the prophecies so that maybe they can tell when they will be fulfilled, but that is because humans enjoy power and knowledge, it is part of our corruption. But people who truly educate themselves with the bible, I find, do not struggle with believing the bible, but with trying to understand God, and wrap their minds around it, and being mere humans, we cannot take in the whole of God, it is not our place to understand Him. The idea of God, Himself, is so massive that we really cannot understand it, and that is where people trip. We are corrupt, we have fallen, and there is nothing we can do about it. Jesus saved me :]
For you scientific folks: Do you think there is a creator? If not, why not? Where did life begin? How do you know? Really, is that how? Well, how do you know that? Where is your 'proof'? Can I please have 'evidence'? Are you sure you aren't just being gullible? Did you really do all of your research? Or are you just believing something because well.... it is easy to believe?
By the way, I am Episcopalian by confirmation, but I have a Catholic-like faith.
EDIT:: Amanda can edit parts out that she finds a bit aggressive.

I'm not taking any particular side in this debate, frankly because the lines where I stand are so weird and not concrete, but my dear Shorty, those questions aren't just limited to Science-y people. :3

true, you are right, they are more incoherence with non-intelligent design people. Evolutionists I suppose.
but I do understand your position. I spend a good vast... 90% of my life there.
Ah, one way God has helped me recently! I think Vi was the only person I went to on here with these problems. This year I went to a new school, christian. As many christian school-goers know, many of the kids do not believe the bible. But I can remember in the last 2 weeks being very upset about being alone at the school outside of my boyfriend. I talked to Vi about this, and I talked through my thoughts, and she understood. I didn't have any friends really at the school. Yes, I could hold conversations with people, but I didn't really have anyone to call "my group of friends" I didn't know where I belonged. So, I resorted to something that I'd pushed to the side and disregarded for some time- praying. Granted, at my school we pray before and after every class, but group prayer isn't always the same as personal prayer. Just like teaching one on one with a teacher isn't the same as classroom instruction. I prayed for God to help me in becoming more open with people, and find some common ground with people that I could become friends with, I told Him everything that I felt on my heart, and in a way, it was much like talking to Vi, only, God has control over my situation. The last few days in my study hall, I have gone out in the hallway with 2 other girls, so that we can talk casually, and still get work done, while we wouldn't be allowed to talk like so in the classroom. But today, one of the girls told me that I should come and hang out with her and her other friend on the weekends when I wasn't with my boyfriend. She asked me about this weekend, but of course this is the weekend that I am going to NYC. But I truly believe that God has helped me in this situation. I think that it is by His hand that I have been helped, and I think it shows the power of prayer. I will have a nice casual conversation with God again tonight, and I will thank Him for His blessings.

I HAVE ONE PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE WHO 'BELIEVE' IN SCIENCE.
My chem teacher actually explained this better than anyone (I don't go to a Catholic school or anything - he just said it, but it wasn't really in any regards to a specific religion). He said that science is just a way of looking at something, making observations from only what we see and making conclusions. Which is why it's always changing and the more you learn deep into chemistry you realize that a lot of it is just guestimations of the most logical possibility.
But what if it /isn't/ the most logical possibility?
Because most likely, it's not. Because we don't see everything, not NEARLY. Human-kind doesn't know everything in science, yet, I think ignorance and arrogance makes people believe that science does.
SHORTY - I'm so happy that you're doing better. (: You're so close to me yet I can't meet you. Just an hour, maybe two depending on traffic. It's driving me crazy. It's funny because I had the same experience basically with you with the whole friend thing... Slightly different, but the same.
